The realities of waste disposal problems and rising energy costs
have driven the economics of a plasma arc solution from concept to
reality.
The 2005 Energy Act encourages energy efficiency and conservation
and promotes the use of alternative and renewable energy sources
such as MSW.
Plasma gasification of MSW provides an ideal renewable energy
source--transforming the growing waste disposal problems into an
economically viable and environmentally friendly energy source. In
fact, the EPA Environmental Technology Council in 2006 reported that
MSW and animal waste can be used to produce energy and hydrogen for
fuel cells in an environmentally friendly manner. The Council has
also identified plasma arc facilities as a way for municipalities to
safely dispose of waste while generating revenue from energy
production.
